James Joyce - Chamber Music

“O Sweetheart, hear you your lover’s tale;” XVII
‘When I wrote them I was a strange and lonely boy, walking about by myself at night and thinking that someday a girl would love me’, Joyce to Nora Aug., 1909.

A collection of 36 love poems composed in different styles, Chamber Music was written between 1901 and 1906 and published by Elkin Matthews in May, 1907. Although the book didn’t sell well – fewer than 250 copies sold in the first year) they did receive some critical acclaim.
