This collection of 15 short stories investigate middle class life around Dublin in the early 20th century and centre on Joyce’s idea of an epiphany. Many of the characters featured turn up later, playing minor roles in Ulysses.  The stories are divided into three parts – childhood, adolescence and maturity. – and are narrated accordingly.
